Lockdown: This is from Allah ﷻ
In the midst of the lockdown, we look back and see how our lives have been upturned by the COVID-19 virus. Confined to our homes, only leaving when necessary.
An end to religious gatherings and many mosques still closed. It’s a trying time for all, especially with people receiving half their paychecks, receiving nothing at all and some even losing their jobs. We know to have tawakkul (trust) and also to tie our camel, but in these trying times all we can do is to stay inside and try our best to flatten the curve.

If we journey back to the past to the story of Sayyidina Maryam (AS). Allah ﷻ placed Sayyidina Maryam under the care of Zakariyya (AS). He would take her food in the Mihrab (place of worship), but he would find her with provisions, narrations say that she would have summer fruits in winter and winter fruits in summer. He asked her about the provisions she received, and her reply was:
“This is from Allah”.
She confined herself to her place of worship, worshipping Allah day and night, she did not need to worry about anything, some narrations said that the provisions were not only food and drink-related, but in all other aspects.

During this time of reflection, this story stood out the most to me given the type of seclusion we find ourselves in, but we should take this as an opportunity to increase in our worship and have certainty in the fact that Allah, alone provides, to whoever He ﷻ wills, without limit. This is also a great time to reflect, on how the pandemic has changed our lives, the similar situations those of the past faced and how they coped and what the Sunnah says.
I ask Allah to protect us all from this virus, that Allah makes it easier on those who are suffering from the virus and that Allah ﷻ removes this virus from all of mankind. Amīn.
